Reflections
At the start of every year
We all make “the list.”
You know the one.
Ambitious goals
Hopeful milestones
Achievements we’re convinced will transform our lives.
It’s inspiring.
Energizing.
Exciting.
“Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.” – Tony Robbins
We rarely hit every goal.
Life shifts.
Priorities change.
Passions fade.
And that’s perfectly okay
As long as we do one key thing:
Reflect.
The Power of Reflection
When we chase goals that no longer inspire us
We risk losing momentum.
Missed goals stack up.
Failure weighs us down.
Before we know it
That uplifting list has become a burden.
Reflecting isn’t optional
It’s essential.
“We do not learn from experience. We learn from reflecting on experience.” – John Dewey
Finding Clarity in Your Work
About half of my consulting work was web development.
Initially, it seemed like a good choice.
But after a while, I wasn’t happy.
It didn’t challenge me the way I’d hoped.
After thinking it through, I put all my energy into other parts of my consulting business.
The work that excited me.
The work that inspired me.
Instead of closing doors
This decision opened new ones.
“The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” – Steve Jobs
Lessons from the Past
Looking back on previous years
I see long periods where I accomplished nothing meaningful.
My problem was simple:
I created ambitious lists but never paused to reflect or adjust.
I blindly chased goals I chose impulsively.
When those goals didn’t work out.
I ended up back at square one.
Frustrated.
Demotivated.
Now, I regularly question my goals.
Do they still matter?
Do they energize me?
If not, I let them go.
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” – Albert Einstein
Reflect, Adjust, Move Forward
Reflecting changes everything.
It helps you measure progress honestly and frees you from unnecessary burdens.
When you regularly adjust your goals, you avoid burnout and stay motivated.
As we reach the midpoint of this year, pause for a moment.
Look at your goals.
Ask yourself honestly:
Does this still serve me?
If it doesn’t, have the courage to let it go.
Reflect.
Adjust.
Move forward with clarity and purpose.
“Follow effective action with quiet reflection. From the quiet reflection will come even more effective action.” – Peter Drucker
You made it to the end. That means you liked it or you’re very patient. Either way, subscribe, share, and tell your friends. I need a big network for reasons.
